5 Ideas to Make Your Small Bathroom Look Bigger

It is everyone’s dream to have a large, luxurious bathroom. Sometimes, there just isn’t the space in our homes. However, there are some things that we can do during your bathroom remodel design to make your smaller bathroom look larger. Yes, technically your bathroom will not be bigger, but it will feel bigger. Our designers use these ideas all the time in the bathrooms we remodel. Take a look at these ideas to create a luxurious feel in your bathroom. You can see concrete examples of how we are able to do this in our past projects.

1. Add Natural Light

Place larger windows in your bathroom. The natural light will brighten up the room and decrease the look of shadows. It will also open up your bathroom so that it isn’t constrained to the 4 walls of your bathroom. It also gives you the chance to look out at nature while you are getting ready in the morning. One area that you need to consider with this tip would be the lack of privacy. Make sure that you do have shades or curtains on your windows.

2. Install a Large Mirror

Every designer knows that when you place a large mirror in any space the room will automatically look larger. It changes how your eye sees the proportions of a room. So, if you have a long bathroom, place a mirror on the longer wall, and the room will look wider. This is a simple change that can make a huge difference in your bathroom.

3. Be Creative With Your Storage

The best thing that you can do is see about installing cabinetry that is flush with your walls. Bulky cabinets can take up extra area in your bathroom. Also, something else that you should consider is open shelving. Instead of installing a traditional vanity during your bathroom remodel, consider choosing a console with a few drawers close to the sink, and then an open shelf with baskets for extra towels and toilet paper closer to the bottom. It looks more like a table, but it opens up your bathroom.

4. Use Glass for Your Shower Doors

It’s time to ditch the shower curtains. Shower curtains break up the room instead of opening it up. You are looking for ways to consolidate your bathroom. Using glass doors lets you see through the entire room. If you do install large windows during your remodeling, the glass doors will allow the natural light to come into your shower to make it brighter while you are showering. Glass shower doors also give your bathroom a modern, elegant design.

5. Paint With Lighter Colors

Darker colors have the ability to make you feel as though you are in a smaller space. It increases the look of shadows and just darkens the entire room. Painting your bathroom white or lighter neutrals will do the opposite. It is much more difficult to see any shadows, and just like adding a window, will greatly open up your bathroom’s design.
There are certain things you can do to trick your eyes into thinking that your bathroom is larger than it actually is. Your designer can discuss other ways that you can remodel your bathroom to make it look a little bit larger.
