Home Additions, Part I of III

Here at Excel Builders we love nothing more than working on home additions!  As addition enthusiasts we are often asked about the process of beginning a home renovation or remodel.  With that in mind, we wanted to take a few posts to discuss home additions.  This week, we will begin by talking about the process of completing a home addition with Excel Builders.  Typically, the first step in beginning the home addition process is to schedule an initial consult.  During the initial consultation we like to discuss the needs of our clients, what they are hoping to achieve from the project, and how they are planning to use the addition.  We also discuss project needs and project wants.
Following the initial consultation, we will meet with clients a second time to review a generic cost estimate for the addition.  As with all projects, price can vary greatly based on the products selected, the size and scope of the addition, the existing building structure, and miscellaneous challenges or obstacles that may occur.  It is also during this second meeting that clients will sign a designing contract and make their project deposit.  Then the fun begins!  With the contract in place, a tentative budget set, and objectives agreed upon, we start drawing up construction documents.  We also encourage our clients to begin working with a designer to select specific building materials.
After the construction documents are completed and final material selections are made, we provide our clients with a more detailed, line itemized bid.  This way, the homeowner understands exactly what the costs are going to be before a building contract is signed.  Once the final plans are approved and a contact is in place, it is time to begin the construction process!

Next week, we will discuss the cost of additions and evaluate addition options.  In the meantime, if you are interested in beginning the home renovation process, contact us today to get your project started!
