Project Goals for This Chanhassen Kitchen Remodel
Originally built in the late 90s, the kitchen of this two-story Chanhassen home featured maple cabinets and laminate countertops. However, outdated cabinetry and countertops were just the tip of the iceberg for this project. The biggest issue was the inconvenient layout of the kitchen, which meant the space was blocked off from the dining room and the rest of the home.
With four previous remodeling projects under their belt, these homeowners were no stranger to the home remodeling process. They had concrete goals in mind for their new kitchen. The primary objectives were opening up the kitchen to make it larger and adding cabinets to maximize their storage space. As a family that loves to cook and bake, having plenty of room to work was also important to them.
Our team put together a project plan to ensure the newly remodeled kitchen design included all of the homeowners’ wants, including:
- Opening up the space and increasing the kitchen’s footprint
- Adding custom cabinetry with creative storage solutions
- Increasing counter space for meal prep and working in the kitchen
- Incorporating a large stove and double ovens
Once the design concept and project details were approved, we got to work making their dream kitchen a reality.
From Dark & Dated to Light & Bright
The first order of business was opening up the space. We started by demoing the kitchen until only the framing remained. Then we removed a wall between the kitchen and dining room, as well as two of the original windows. The new kitchen design allowed us to frame and install three new windows, which really brightened up the space. Next, we tore out the dining room carpet and installed new hardwood flooring. The rest of the main level’s wood flooring was also sanded and refinished to match the kitchen and dining room.
Once the new footprint was in place, we were able to put the kitchen back together. The new design features custom cabinetry designed, built, and installed by our sister company, Artisan Cabinet Company. With painted cabinets along the perimeter and a stained maple island, this two-tone kitchen is perfectly on-trend.
Some of our favorite features include:
- Custom cabinetry with interior organization accessories
- Built-in bench with cabinets and shelving
- Spacious kitchen island with a granite countertop and ample seating
- Matching granite backsplash
- New appliances, including a gas cooktop with a stainless hood, double ovens, beverage fridge, dishwasher, and built-in fridge
- Modern, eye-catching light fixtures
