After the gratitude of Thanksgiving and the adrenaline rush of Black Friday comes one of our favorite holidays – small business Saturday! This lesser known holiday is one that is near and dear to our hearts. It is your opportunity to recognize and celebrate brick and mortar small businesses, and all that they do for our communities. Here are just a few of the reasons why we love small businesses (statistics taken from the United States Small Business Association Office of Advocacy):
- A small business is considered such by having less than 500 employees. According to the SBA there 28 million small businesses in the US – meaning they outnumber corporations 1162 to 1.
- America’s small businesses are the engines of job creation. Small businesses create seven of every ten new jobs and they employ just over half of the country’s private sector workforce.
- Small businesses create thirteen times more patents per employee than large patenting companies.
- Small businesses provide half of the country’s nonfarm, private real gross domestic product.
Join us in celebration on Saturday, November 25 by supporting the small businesses that invigorate our economy and keep communities thriving! Click here to find a list of participating organizations or visit any local small business this Saturday to show your appreciation and support!
