We recently completed a basement in a home built in 2013, located in Victoria, Minnesota. Our clients wanted to finish their basement to provide more space for the family to enjoy time together and to entertain quests.
We divided the large unfinished space into a bedroom, bathroom, family room, wine bar and game area. From the main level to the basement we added a custom dark colored wainscoting on the stairs to provide an elegant transition. The game room area provides plenty of space, in fact large enough to house a shuffle board! In this area we utilized the left-over space for storage and masked it with French doors to store all of the games and seasonal supplies to keep the space clutter free.
In the family room we installed a 65” television on a custom floating led back lit tiled wall mount. This created drama, and a great space to sit and watch a movie.
Behind the family room is the wine bar, another great space to enjoy a relaxing drink with friends, and also a beautiful view of the backyard. In the wine bar we built in a drawer microwave, 2 wine and beverage fridges, and cabinets for storage. Upper cabinets were finished with glass doors to display personal items.
On the other side of the wine bar is enough storage for 200 plus bottles of wine! The glass shelves for additional display, and additional storage in base cabinets. Plenty of room for whatever you want to display and need to store.
In the bathroom, we provided a free-standing vanity from Restoration Hardware, tile floor, and a recessed medicine cabinet. We went bold for the shower with some lovely textured vibrant blue subway tile, and thick denim marble tile for the shampoo niche. Sometimes I hold my breath on what the finished product will look like, in this case, WOW.
Last, but not least, in the bedroom we provided a walk-in closet for additional storage or plenty of room for their guests.
In the end, finishing the basement was a great investment for our clients and provided them the same quality and attention to detail the rest of their house has been finished with.
